In a semantic grammar, "syntactic" and "semantic" processing is combined into a single framework, which may be expressed as a "context-free grammar" or an "ATN", in which both "terminal" and "non-terminal symbols" may be semantic categories. Only semantically interpretable phrases are accepted by a "parser", which has the advantage of detecting semantic anomalies immediately.
