Specifically, a campaign organized by a government body or other organization which particularly utilizes television and the press to increase awareness about the risks associated with drinking, to change attitudes towards drinking and, ultimately, to decrease alcohol consumption.
Note :
A strategy often employed by health and welfare sectors has been the broadcasting on publication of educational messages in the mass media. Many mass media campaigns advocate moderate alcohol use and have included : strategies for reducing intake, such as switching to non-alcohol beverages; portrayal of the negative effects of intoxication or chronic use, such as impaired sexual performance; and portrayal of the positive consequences of moderate use, such as sporting ability or enhanced sexual attractiveness. Despite the popularity of mass media campaigns, they have shown limited effect on the recipients beliefs and attitudes, and no impact on self-reported drinking.
