The tables à déjeuner belong to that large family of small movable tables or tables ambulantes that flourished under Louis XVI. These light and convenient small tables were chiefly used as coffee tables and occasionally perhaps for tea. The top was generally of marble and partially surrounded with a pierced metal gallery. One characteristic form was designed with a small circular top mounted on a standard and with a median shelf of similar circumference.
Note :
It seems that the term déjeuner was first mentioned in a inventory of 1782.
